Professor Parvez's E-Book 'Roadmap to Good Governance 9i Model' is coming

Staff reporter:

The E-book 'Roadmap to Good Governance 9i Model' by Economist and Chairman of NBER, Professor Syed Ahsanul Alam Parvez of Chittagong University will be published on improving the standard of living of people and establishing good governance. In the book, he discusses the 9 I models for good governance in the country to form the basis of modern democracy, to lay the foundation for establishing a free economy, and to improve the quality of life of the people.

Prof. Parvez has also written two books, Susam Samaj Benirman, and Context: Susam Samaj, Garibbandhav Budget, and Daridra Duririkaran Tatta.

In the book 'Roadmap to Good Governance 9i Model' written by Prof. Parvez, Democracy cannot flourish in the absence of good governance. The pre-
condition for good governance is effective democratic institutions for
democratizing society. Improvement of the living standard of people cannot
happen where people cannot participate in governance, human rights are not
respected, information does not flow, and civil society and the judiciary are
weak. Nine criteria of good governance may be used to determine whether any
country qualifies to have good governance:

1. INDEPENDENT AND NON-PARTISAN ELECTION COMMISSION
2. INDEPENDENT JUDICIARY AND THE RULE OF LAW
3. INDEPENDENT MEDIA AND FREEDOM OF SPEECH
4. INDEPENDENT ANTI-CORRUPTION COMMISSION
5. INVESTING IN THE PEOPLE
6. INDEPENDENT AND EFFECTIVE PARLIAMENT
7. INDEPENDENT HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION
8. INDEPENDENT OMBUDSMAN SYSTEM
9. INVESTMENT FRIENDLY GOVERNMENT.

He said I would propose these Nine components to be referred to as the Nine 'I' model of good
governance or the Nine 'I' model of good governance. In the absence of these
Nine 'I' good governance in Bangladesh like any other country will be a far cry.
These components constitute the foundations of modern democracy and
create the underpinning to establish a free economy and spur domestic and
foreign investment, especially the potential investment of the Non-Resident
Bangladeshis ( NRB) particularly in the case of Bangladesh.
